way too busy
May. 2nd, 2004 10:08 pmBack from Orlando, getting ready to go to Arizona on Tuesday.
We went to the Kennedy Space Center on Friday. It totally rocked. They have a "lunch with an astronaut" program, which I was more than looking forward to. We got to meet astronaut Robert Springer who is also from Ohio. He talked for about 30 minutes about his career with NASA, and then took questions. I asked him about going to Mars, and if we should go directly or do what Bush proposed and go from the moon. He said we have the technology to make the direct flight today. What we don't have is the budget, and going to the moon first, build a base, learning how to build and run a colony and then going to Mars is a more budget friendly option because it doesn't involve huge jumps in the budget year-over-year.
As part of that trip, we hit the Astronaut Hall of Fame. It was cool, and one of the displays was a scaled-down two-person centrifuge. It maxes at 4Gs and Brandon waited in line for almost an hour to ride it. He said it was a blast. He couldn't believe how much he could feel even his necklace get weighed down at the peak of the ride.
The flight back was less than fun with a 7am take-off. I've no clue what the heck I was thinking when I booked that. Tuesday's flight out is a bit more civilized, 9am. I am going with my gf to Arizona for her high school reunion. We are going by way of Cleveland so her and my parents can meet, and then I'll get to meet her mom when we get to Phoenix. She wants to take me to Tombstone on Thursday. She knows I'm a history buff and thought I'd have fun. She's sweet like that.
