New year, new surprises
Jan. 5th, 2005 11:31 pmThe family is in the house, doing the u-haul bit this weekend. We met with the adjustor from the insurance company today. It went OK, in part because I (again) took the high road and was polite and all that, and in part because the contractor didn't show (no big surprise there) which made the former much easier to pull off. I don't have a lot of hopes for much of anything tangible to come of it, but at least this way the insurance company can't say that they weren't informed. Tomorrow I have to mail a copy of the spreadsheet I did showing how the money was disbursed (including what I've paid out of my pocket in the last few weeks) and the list of items not done, materials yet to be purchaces, work done at substandard quality or not at all, and all the work that we've done.
Again, I don't expect much. Evidentally the contractor stopped at the house and spoke with the Ex and told her that I should expect to here from his lawyers. Frankly, I hope he does initiate something. That'll get this over with sooner and if it does go to court, I'm just as happy to do so with him forking over all the fees to start it. However, with about 12 different ways he's defrauded me, I doubt he'll get any attorney to take the case that far. Time will tell.
Today was the first easy day at work; I spent the last two days loading patches to our new HR app. It was nice to be able to do some real system admin stuff today. Tomorrow will be another lite day, and then Friday will be more patches, this time on the Data Warehouse app. Yay for diversity.
Oh, the surprise. Aparently along with my quarterly on-call stipend, I'm getting a $500 bonus for working so diligently on the monthly maintenance weekends. In pre-emptory celebration I bought a leather jacket at the mall. JC Penny is having one heck of a sale and I took advantage. Of course this now means I need to get myself out of this trailer and get out there and do something so I have an excuse to wear the thing.
