I had a very nice, very relaxing trip. Which is a Very Good Thing, but more on that later. Friday my Mom decided to throw a joint birthday party for my sister, my brother and me. In typical fashion she neglected to mention to anyone that my other brother, Tom (the one just back from Iraq), was also available as his kids' activities had been canceled, but was carless with his wife at work and his car in the shop. This gets old, and not finding out until Sunday didn't make it any less anoying.
But, it was very nice to see my sister and her new little one. Tom's first reaction was "Look what you did!" Watching them renew their perpetual (usually) good-natured name calling was incredibly nostalgic. This happened on Saturday. Wicked huge party for my brother, and it was a good time. Lots of food, lots of family, lots of friends. And quite a bit of fun cleaning up afterwards too.
I spent Saturday nite at Tom's, playing his son's PS2 until after 2 in the morning. I woke-up feeling ok. He, unfortunately, woke-up with the flu. By Sunday his kids and about a quarter of the people who were at the party had it. Thankfully, I've so far dodged that bullet.
Monday I got to do something I've never done before: take my little brother to opening day at Jacob's Field. It was a good game except for the outcome. Boone didn't help his cause one bit by striking out in such spectacularly poor fashion. Just don't ask what I paid for the tickets. You only get to a do something for the first time once, and for certain things money shouldn't have to be an issue.
It was great to see and spend time with my brother and the rest of my family. I rushed over to the house to see my kids as soon as I got in. Now to get my act together to deeal with real life. I've a busy week ahead.
