Spent the day at the MFA
Nov. 11th, 2005 10:07 pmI took the day off from work, got up early, ran errands for a few hours this morning and then down to Boston. I went to the Museum of Fine Art with
lydyfyrefly and had a very enjoyable day. They have an Ansel Adams exhibition running until January 4. If you at all like Adams and are in the area, do yourself a favor and make the time to go. It's well worth the time.
Coming out of the Adams exhibit, you enter the gift shop, and then a gallery of impressionist paintings. Going from the black and white of Adams to the bright colors of Monet, Renior, and Van Gogh was quite the initial shock. The paintings, however, are grand. The MFA's collection of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman scupltures, pottery, and other artificats are equally impressive. While the collection of Greek and Romain coins they had on display wasn't the largest, they were of the highest quality that I have ever personally seen (not that I've seen a ton of ancient coins, but still). I need to go back and spend more time there, now that I know what they have.
