can I stand a little more?
Feb. 27th, 2006 11:27 pmIn spite of everything else going on in my life, I am going to go back to school. I can't start until April because I won't have the money for the first class to start in March, but that's probably for the best. I have to go to EMC for a CAS class on the 13th. But in April I'm planning on doing the Java certification program at the local tech college in Concord. It's a 5 class program in more or less the same format I've seen other schools and training companies offer. It's entirely web based and self-paced, but there is, thankfully, a text book that goes with each class. I've seen too many web classes that were just so much fluf; the fact that there's a text books leads me to believe that this will have real substance and I ought to emerge from this process at least semi-armed and definitely dangerous and ready for dealing with Java.
The really cool part is if this goes very well I may have a new skill for getting some new employment as a full-time programmer again. I'm not at all sure about going back down that road; this will give me the basis for being able to realistically ask that question.
I've survived 18+ years in IT in part by being able to reinvent myself professionally every 3-5 years. I'm do for a make-over.
