lizards and spiders and snakes, oh my!
Apr. 15th, 2006 08:15 pmSamantha has been asking for a geko for months now. The did something at school that involved lizards and she's been on a lizard kick since. There was a Reptile Expo down in Manchester today, so I took her. And Danny and Elyssia because the Ex took the boys to go help her mom move. (Again.)
I figured this would either completely cure Sam of wanting a lizard, or comfirm that she really did. She did great. They all did, in fact. The only thing Sam didn't want to do was look at the trantulas. She was a bit unsure of the snakes, but the bright colors and all the interested people around her won her over.
I did promise their mom that I wouldn't be buying anything there, and Sam understood that so there wasn't any unnessary requesting for getting this or that to worry about. The gekos are cheap: $15-$25 depending on the type, and some pairs were as low as $22. It's the cage and the light and the stuff for in the cage and the food that are the catch. But certainly something to consider--for later. Their current situation at the house is not exactly condusive to having a lizard. If the dog didn't discover it, I'm not at all convinced that Danny or Elyssia wouldn't accidentally let the thing escape.
I might be able to keep it here, until it got cold. I don't want to even think about what it would cost to keep this sieve of a trailer warm enough in the winter for a pair of gekos to not die.
