a bleak, dreary day
Jun. 10th, 2006 07:26 pmIt's raining again. Nothing new there, it's like being in Seattle around here lately. Not that I've personally been to Seattle, mind, but the metaphor fits disturbingly well. Except today is cold too, which drove the heavy sweater back out of the closet. I'm almost tempted to turn the heat on, but my hands aren't quite blue. Yet.
I've got the weekend to myself. The Ex has the kids with her at her nephew's graduation today. All except Mike, who I drove down to the paintball park this morning. He's ref'ing today, playing in the tourney tomorrow. One of the top prizes is a new marker, which he's hoping to win in order to sell on eBay to raise money to buy what he really wants. (And no, I've no idea where he gets these ideas about eBay...)
It's also Elyssia's birthday. She's five. She with more family today than she's been around ever, as the Ex's sister and new twins are out from the west coast for the graduation along with all the local extended family, and that's a good thing for her to experience. She's forever playing with and fussing over her dolls; having two real babies to fuss over should be fun for her.
I went to the Mall after dropping Mike, but I'm still at a loss what to get her. I'm usually good at this, but not today. I did hit Electronics Boutiques and bought a copy of "The World Series of Poker", and have wasted several hours since learning I don't know enough when to quite that I ought never to try and play Texas Hold 'Em with real money.
I was also looking for a black suit jacket for me. Beingnotoriously cheap extremely thrifty, I checked at Sears first, but the ones they had were double-breasted. With my stickman figure, a double-breasted suit isn't the most prudent fashion choice. The gold buttons served to confirm the no-sale. So I went to JC Penny's. Evidetally, pastels and bright colors are back with a vengence, as it looked like the 80s threw-up in there. The only black jackets I saw there were double-breasted as well, not that I spent a ton of time looking.
Not that I needed one, but I thought it would be a more conservative look for going to the Wakeman show next week. I am on call, but my manager--who's something of a prog-rock fan in his own right--was actually psyched that I'm going and said he'd switch with me. It's so nice to work for someone who gets not only that I don't live to work, but has similar appreciations for life that I have.
