The joys of holiday shopping

Sam needed something gift-exchangy for her class tomorrow. The stipulations were nothing religious, nothing expensive, no toys, no food, no candy. (And, apparently, no fun.) The suggested items were "pencils or other party favors".

So I was at the Mall with Sam and her mom. Her mom and I were trying think of where to go to get a bland, trivial, disposable, non-religious, non-edible "party favor" for her to take in.

Me: How about Spencers?

Her: What!?!?

Me: Sure, they have interesting holiday stuff in there

Her: Are you trying to get me in trouble?

Me: What, are you worried about getting lots of phone calls from angry parents?

Her: I don't need that

Me: Come on! It's Christmas! It's the perfect time of year to make trouble, what with all the Peace on Earth and Goodwill toward Men in the air, they'll get over it in no time!


She still didn't go for it.
