I had promised Sam I'd take her out to get some new books for her birthday, and today I finally delivered. We hit Borders, and she looked at a lot of books. She's so sweet, she wants so much to please, but at the same time she already knew what sort of book she wanted. She had here heart set on something with cats in it. We found the Animal Ark series which had no less than four books with cats and kittens in them. She settled on two and seemed very happy with her selection. Then as we were heading to the front to pay, we ran into one of her school teachers. Sam was taken very off-guard, but was proud to she her teacher her new books, and her teacher was very approving of the choice as being very appropriate for her reading level.

By the time we got out of there, I was starving. I'd not eaten lunch, and it was after 4. I asked Sam if she was hungry, and she said that she hadn't had lunch either. She wanted to go to McDonalds, but I talked her into trying the Japanese Steak House. She'd not been there before, and didn't know what to expect.

She was thrilled with the experience. The fire really scared her for a second, but then she jumped right back into the fun. She loved the "food tossing", as she described it. I had also talked her into getting the salmon, which she'd never had before and couldn't get enough of.

It was a wonderful time of firsts with my little girl.
