The concert was nice, and Samantha enjoyed it. They started with the first moment from a Motzart piece which I'd never heard before, Divertimento K251. They they played "Spring" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, and finally Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. Sam was fairly well captivated.
At the end of the performance they made an opportunity for the kids to see the instrument up close. We were able to be near the front of the line to get up on stage (we had great seats!) and Sam got to play the snare drum for a minute.
After the concert we hit the mall and got Sam some new jeans. Sears was having a sale and we scored three pair at ten each. Then we went on a quest for ear muffs. Sears and Penney's didn't have any, but The Bon Ton had the kind that wrap around the back of your head and to Sam's delight, had them in leopard print! We then went to the Lindt store and celebrated our find with chocolate.
After the mall I had the pleasure of Samantha's company for dinner at Taco Bell. Thankfully, we were not interupted by Edgar Friendly.
From there we went to WalMart in search of classical music CDs. Sam announced at the end of the concert that she "definitely wanted that music for her CD player.". However, we couldn't find it. We did find and buy the DVD of "The Neverending Story". She said she'd not ever seen it. The VHS copy we had didn't make it through the fire, so this was a must buy.
(Total aside: the videos in the house were on a shelf on at the opposite end of the room where the fire started. They all melted together. Evidentally the fireman chucked the contents of the shelves out the window. The video tapes, which were stacked two rows deep and two high and about 25 across were just one, melted block of plastic.)
So then it was on to Borders where we found and bought not only the Prokofeiv and Vivaldi from today's show, but I found my favorite piece of classical music, Tchiachovsky's Serenade for Strings. I also bought a package of Jelly Belly Raspberries and Blackraspberries. If you've not had them, you need to, they are almost as good as chocolate.
