Aug. 10th, 2007 10:46 pmIt's been a week and a half since I gave my notice, with three weeks of getting paid left. I've sent out a grand total of three resumes, received 1 response (not what they were looking for), and have had zero interviews. Not exactly an auspicious start.
If I don't have an interview at least scheduled by the end of next week, then the week of the 20th I'm going to have to start contacting firms specializing in short-term contract work to ensure that I can keep some money coming in after the end of this month.
The way the paychecks fall, I'll be getting paid for 1 week after I leave, plus I'll have about 5 weeks of vacation time to get paid out. The catch with that is that the company adopted a new policy a few years ago that vacation time is paid at 75%. Now there's a state law that says accrued vacation pay is considered wages, and there's another state law that says all wages due to an employee upon voluntary termination of employment are to be paid within 72 hours of the last day work. Theoretically, the company adopted the policy based on some IRS reg, but I've not found anything that would be even remotely close to covering this situation in searching the IRS web site. So, I may have another argument on my hands at the end of the month.
