It too hot and I'm still too hyped to sleep. New England has crazy weather and the last 7 days have been at extremes. Last week nights were in the 40s and I was running the space heater for an hour or so at night to take the chill out of the air; and today we topped 80 and I had the fan in the window. It's probably still over 70 out there and just humid enough to be sticky, but not so much that it will rain any time soon.

Tomorrow at work the next major release of the software is scheduled to go out. If that happens, and how soon 7.0 will be followed by 7.0.1 remains to be seen, including whether they do layoffs or not. In the meantime, I'm supposed to carry on like it's just another week, and schedule the down-time for Saturday to upgrade EMC client-side software. I had the odd thought yesterday that if I did that like nothing was happening, then maybe I could get myself unlayed-off by pointing out if they let me go, that no one else was going to be around to do this work, and that the work wasn't going to get done by itself. Sometimes I have to wonder if they think just that: that some of the work is actually self-managing and that we are just a bunch of over-paid babysitters. God knows I've been treated like that often enough in my career to have a reasonable basis for the hypothesis.

But then tomorrow is also Tuesday, and Tuesday means Guinness at the Barely House, in absence of anything else going on. I'm not on-call and nothing has been scheduled, so I know that working late isn't going to happen. Even if the SAN crashes at 4:59. I want to go see Iron Man, as well as the new Raiders movies. Brandon didn't want to see Iron Man last weekend, so maybe I'll give him one more shot to see it this next weekend if he wants; otherwise I may go see it Wednesday or Thursday by myself. Raiders I'd like to see with someone, but there's no someone to see it with, so I'll probably go on wanting to, but ultimately waiting for it on DVD.

As tomorrow is a business day, I'm hoping that the various job web sites will be updated with new listings. It's been the same round of repeats the last week or so. This may indicate a slowing of the market, or just that a lot of HR folks took few extra days off last week. It's not the end of the quarter (except for those few companies who opperate on a funky fiscal year where the quarters don't align with the calendar-year quarters) which sometimes sees a drop-off in the pace of new listings, so I have ridiculously high-hopes for something new for which I can send in my resume.

You got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there.
