rumors, lies, and innuendo
Jun. 5th, 2008 10:35 pmThe lastest rumor at work is that the company is going to be sold. There's occasional speculation as to whom the buyer would be, but no real evidence. Getting bought out has a good chance to be a great thing as much as it does for being disasterous, depending on whether the buyer was foriegn or domestic, or had a similar product to ours, or not.
The other bit of encouraging speculation is that one of the lazier, and frankly, quite disengenuous of those who some thought were going to get laid off and did not is probably going to leave of his own accord within the month. Just the fact that this person is looking for a new job makes me feel better about sticking around longer (as if I have a choice at the moment).
On a more positive note, tonight I completed the 6th of 8 software upgrades that have to get done prior to a major firmware upgrade on the SAN next Tuesday night. So far my boss is pleased, even though last Saturday I was scheduled to do 7 of them and only completed one. I'm hoping he appreciates my cautious approach in doing this, particularly in the face of Veritas file systems on Linux when none were advertised nor expected.
Tomorrow I have to upgrade the last to Sun servers, then next week I get to do a self-taught crash course in Vertias Cluster services. Fortunately the Windows admin knows something about it, as there is zero documentation about it, vendor supplied or otherwise.
