edwards and the letter "D"
1. Don't Look Back, Boston. The title song from Boston's second album was the soundtrack of my 13th summer. I wasn't close to being old enough to drive, or to hang out with my sister's friends who were. I spent an insane amount of time in my room reading, radio on and volume set as low as possible. Boston was on heavy rotation that summer on WMMS, WGCL (now WNCX), WLYT, and occasionally on WKSU out of Kent State University. So I got to hear it almost hourly, if not at least daily.
2. Daysleeper, REM. For two year while I was in college I worked third shift. This, had it come out 12 years earlier, could have been the theme song of my life back then.
3. Du Riechst so Gut, Rammstein. Like almost all Rammstein songs, the tune is catchy and the lyrics are interesting but they quickly get creepy if you start applying them too literally to your personal life. "You smell so good" is also one of their few songs that starts with "D". Smell can be one of the instant attraction triggers for me with women, but the song has an overt stalker theme to it that cautions not only to not read too much between the lines, but not to read too much about the lines themselves. But any band that uses not just flaming arrows, but a flaming bow is worth a watch: the video
4. Dani California, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Another catchy tune with a chorus hook that works as well as any. It's mostly a good lead-in for "Snow", which was one of those songs that hit me squarely in the OCD to where I had to get out and buy the CD so I could play it over and over for weeks and weeks in my car on the way to and from work to learn the lyrics. And to hear that guitar intro. "Dani California" was mostly just along for the ride.
5. Don't Tell Me What Love can Do, Van Halen. Possibly the most complex lyrics from Van Halen; it immediately struck me as the counter-point to Rush's "Free Will". And was also hooked on the grinding guitar, screaming Sammy, and the new grunge look for the band.
1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter
2. List 5 songs you like that start with that letter
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.
4: Optionally, you can give me a letter and I'll reply in comments with some tracks for that one
