Ok, so Summer isn't over until the Autumnal Equinox on September 23, but it's realistically over because tomorrow is the first day of school for my kids.

I didn't do much in the way of summer activities or vacation this year, as my move consumed my week of vacation and the weeks since. However, I don't look at this as a summer wasted or lost. I needed to move. Should have done so several years ago. But all that is past and now I've (literally) moved on. And instead of just waiting until next summer, I'm going to keep on planning to go places and do things, both with my kids and by myself.

The NH Highland Games are next month, and I am going to prevail upon at least one of my friends (and I'm look at all you Boston-area lj'ers) to go with me either Friday or Saturday.

I also got invited to another special event next month, but I still have to make arrangements for that and to confirm my attendance. I'll make a special posting for that later.

So with September booked with two long-weekend events, I'm looking at October and November. I want to see some Shakespeare this year, and being in New England, this shouldn't be terribly difficult to find, I just don't want to settle for a high school production. My favorite is As you like It, which I've seen several times. I'd like to see a drama, but Samantha has expressed interested in seeing another play this year, so maybe a comedy is in order.

And another concert would be nice. I passed on both Rush and Boston this year, partly for lack of money, partly because of schedule conflicts with moving. R.E.M. was also around earlier, but the tickets were both very expensive and quickly sold out in spite of the high prices. There are several small venues in Boston that are supposed to be nice, I just need to check out who is playing when, and start setting aside the bucks for it.

And speaking of setting aside bucks, I found http://www.mcforensicart.com/ this morning. Melissa is a forensic sketch artist who also happens to work with the Page Museum La Brea Tar Pits, where she does conservation work with dinosaur bones. She also sketches them. I e-mailed her this morning and asked if she ever sells the dinosaur sketchs, and she does. So I'm going to commison her to sketch something that I can give to Daniel, who is very much into dinosaurs right now.
