Today was Samantha's first field hockey game. It was actually a scrimmage, as her team is purely instructional and not part of a league. Still, her team won outscored the other 7-3. She played defense, and had several good plays where she sucessfully intercepted the ball and sent it back up field. If she could remember to keep her stick down and ready, she could have had at least two others. Not a bad effort at all for playing against a group of girls she'd never seen before. She has another scrimmage tomorrow, and both she and I expect that she'll do even better.

I forgot to bring my camera. This was in part due to running late, and in part to me think both so little of the camera that I have, and thinking about using it less and less often. I want a Nikon D90. I'd happily settle for a refurb'd D80 or D70. What I don't know is where to look to get one at the best price. I've looked on craigslist, and prices there are all over the place. Amazon wasn't any better. Ebay is right out, although I will look there to price-compare. Surfing around for deals shows that there is an insane number of lenses and accessories for this leading to an even more insane number of package combinations, with may web sites advertised "specials" really just being for the camera body.

What I may do is go to a camera shop and get the whole in-person sales experience, get some questions answered, figure out which lens (or lenses) will be best for what I want the camera for, and thereby establish a high-watermark retail price. Then I'll have something to price compare againts and measure just how good or bad any given "deal" really is or isn't.

Except that I need a new suit, some new shoes, new jeans as all mine currently have frayed cuffs or small holes. I also have to get new glasses as my current pair is becoming less corrective every day. I have an appointment in November, but if I change jobs before that, I won't be able to use the vision insurance I currently have which sets my cost for new specs at all of twenty bucks. And I do want to replace my DVD player. It all adds up to too many wants and not enough cash flow--in the short term.

This clearly calls for a plan.
