catch-up

It's been a week since I've done a "real" post. And a long week it has been. Work has sucked, so the less said (or written) about that, the better.

Samantha is doing basketball and has practice on Monday and Thursdays. Yesterday, they were practicing their defensive setup and Sam intercepted the ball and drove the lane and scored. The only think she didn't do perfect was to stop before she too the shot. She just about walked back on air, she was so excited, cause she not only intuitively understood what she just did, she was well aware of the presence of mind she had while she was doing it. It was her first real moment of being "in the zone" She's got a scrimmage against another team tomorrow night, and practice again on Thursday, so she may be all basketball'd out by the weekend.

After practice, she asked if she could stay with some of the other girls and shoot hoops, so that's what we did. I suggested that she try to shoot a lay-up on the run, instead of stopping like she did before. She tried it and missed the first time, but nailed the second one. And the third. She was one big grin after that.

I got a ton of stuff done this weekend. Most of it was unplanned, as I skipped work Thursday after spending most of Wednesday freezing my butt off. Friday the chills were gone and I was back at work, but planning on taking it easy this weekend. Except that I had scheduled a few things that I needed to do. So Saturday started with a trip to the car dealer for a oil change, winter inspection special, and mudflaps. Yes, mudflaps on my minivan. After seeing how poorly my last van fared with the snow and salt and muck of a New England winter, I sprung for the optional mudflaps. They are hard plastic, contoured to the van and don't look too odd. Hopefully they'll make a difference this winter.

After that was a day of miscellaneous errands and running the Ex grocery shopping. This could be the last time, as she got her settlement check from the insurance company finally. Sunday was haircut, shopping and late lunch with Mike, with football after.

Yesterday I had the second occurrence of the rare treat of watching Cleveland play on Monday Night Football, and win. Cleveland's defense tried really hard at the end to give it away, but fortunately the Bill's kicker had other plans and shanked the potential game-winning field goal.

Right now I'm watching House repeats in effort to avoid putting up plastic on the windows. I bought a kit Saturday, but I'm less than impressed with it. I also bought a roll of plastic sheeting which I'm very tempted to use as it's thicker and will be both more insulative and easier to put up.

I'm still psych'd that I called the arsenic on tonight's new House episode. How silly is that?
