another first

Samantha had her first band concert tonight. She's been taking clarinet lessons at school, and tonight was the students opportunity to show what they have learned. I took a few pictures, but I don't know if they will come out. I had the flash off. I suppose I did that out of habit, but it was a 5th grade band concert, I could have left it on, I don't know what I was thinking. I did take one of her afterwards that should be ok.

Afterwards she wanted to get something for her mom for her birthday, so we went the mall and did that. It's nice to see her being so considerate and I want to encourage that. She picked out a pin made of purple stones in the shape of a flower. Nothing terribly special in or of itself, but hopefully special enough that it comes from her heart and all of her own wanting to do it.
