Sam's team won their playoff game tonight, so they will play in the championship game on Friday. It wasn't ever really close. The first quarter ended 12-3 and the score at half was 18-3. By the fourth quarter, Sam's team was literally playing "who hasn't scored yet?". After trying 5 shots throughout the 3rd and 4th quarters, Sam was the last girl on her team to score, making the first time that all 9 girls scored in the same game. The final score was 38-25 (I think). The coolest part of Friday is that, win or lose, they have a pizza party to go to afterward, because their team was sponsored by a local italian restaurant.

The other team only had 5 girls, and one of them started cramping late in the 2nd. So they played 4-on-4 for the last few minutes of the 2nd and the first few of the 3rd, and Sam's team was still pulling away. Once they started that, their coach had them stop using the full-court press and that's when the other team started scoring more.

Sam was still lost the first few minutes out there. I think that's because when she got out there, she was told who to guard, but not what position she was playing. She's used to playing the 4 or 5 (shooting guard or center), as she's the second tallest on the team, so that's what she did on offense. At haft-time the coach renumbered those going back on, so she got back on track. She played the last 2 minutes of the second, and then the entire second half. After the game she said her arms hurt, partly from shooting and rebounding, and partly from getting her arm pulled fighting for what turned into a jump ball.

Even though she played more tonight and scored a basket, I still think Saturday was her best game so far. Maybe Friday she can bring the intensity back and score one or two as well. Either way, I'm sure she'll be happy and ready for pizza when it's over.
