in-voluntary vacation, day 1
Mar. 10th, 2009 08:46 pmI got registered for unemployment benefits today. The earliest they will kick in is the 22nd, as I got my week of accured vacation paid out. I also took my Ex to the state office to get the kids signed-up for the medicare insurance. She has a follow-up interview on Thursday which will determine if/when she'll qualify for food stamps. The medicaid part of it is all but a given. I don't know if she'll need any more heating oil as we got 100 gallons last month, but I've got contacts for two different resources to get heating assitance too.
Tomorrow the weather is going to be messy. There's some debate if it's going to just be rain or freezing rain or snow. I'm supposed to go in and get my books and stuff from my desk, and drop off my severance agreement. Both are equally important, but the severance pay is undeniably the more urgent and the sooner I drop it off the sooner those wheels start turning toward getting me a check.
I found another position to apply for, but it's over an hour drive to the west, and partly on secondary roads, so the company may not be willing to even interview me because of that. But the only way to find out is to ask, and ask I will.
