It's been an eventful weekend. Friday, my oldest, Brandon, was down in Boston completing his physical for the Army. He passed it, and signed-up for three years. He'll be here until September 13, and then on the 14th he goes down to Boston for the night and then on the 15th he'll be off to Ft. Benning, Georgia for basic training. (using firefox when clicking the link returns an ironically humorous result). It won't be until he's almost finished with basic before he'll know where he's off to next. He signed-up for Power Generation Equipment Repairer, but it's not guaranteed. If he does get that, he could be doing his AIT in Aberdeen, Md.
Basic is 9 weeks, AIT is 11 weeks, and he may get a week or two off in-between. So that put him into January or February of next year before he gets posted anywhere. Theoretically, he'll get posted somewhere in the US for about 6 months before he goes anywhere out-of-country, if he goes at all. Time will tell.
And today, my youngest son, Daniel, turned 11. Not bad for a premie who we didn't know if we were going to get to take home. His mom tells me he was up at 4am and again at 6am because he couldn't wait for today to start. He'd been counting down the days since the day after his little sister's birthday back in June. He got some Bionicals and two new games for his Wii, among other things. He was a very, very happy boy.
I had taken Brandon out to shop for him on Monday, and took the girls out yesterday, and got to make the most of this. Brandon's birthday is next, at the end of the month. That's going to something of a mixed-emotional event, as he's going to be 21, and then going away two weeks later. I need to find something special for him.
