Canadian Thanksgiving
Oct. 11th, 2009 09:51 pmI got an invite from
silentq to come down and join her Canadian Thanksgiving celebration. So I did something completely out-of-character and accepted and went. It was nice. Lots of interesting people and very good food. I ate too much and not nearly enough all at the same time. I was terribly aware that I had a long drive home ahead of me and didn't want to be falling asleep from over-eating. (As it was, I stopped on the way back at the McDonalds in Nashua for a coffee.)
It didn't take too long before I knew that, one, I could function in a large group of strangers in close quarters; and two, that I was all too aware that being mostly older (and probably close to 10 years older, on average) than practically everyone else left me a limited basis to relate to anyone. Still it was fun.
I brought wine, Voga Pina Grigio, and I thought it was good. Looking at various reviews on-line, it's gotten mixed reaction as an average wine. Not being a wine drinker, I can live with that, and will probably buy it again. In fact, one of the things it gets downgraded for is that there is virtually no finish, which is one of the qualities I liked about it. I guess becoming a wine snob is one more thing I don't have to worry about.
