not dead yet
Nov. 22nd, 2009 10:09 pmI'm feeling Human again--as opposed to feeling like a living mucus factory like I was for the last few weeks. Being ill took so much out of me, and one of the first things to not get done was posting here.
I have a short week at work this week. I cannot recall if I put in for Wednesday off two, so I don't know if my work week is 2 or 3 days, but I definitely have at least a four-day weekend to look forward to. Last week I worked from home Tuesday-Friday; realistically, I had no business going in on Monday, but guilt makes us do odd things we otherwise would not in its absence.
Friday was really only a half-day as I logged out of the VPN at 12:30. It would have been a full day off (as a sick day) but I had to redo the work I did Thursday, as it turns out I was directed to the wrong blade servers and had to reload on the correct stuff. Fortunately, we are making use of Cobbler, so reloading an OS takes all of 15 minutes. I think it took the longer to get the correct blades on the blade center assigned to the right network connections, but then I suppose that should be expected when running java-based apps over a VPN connection. Reloading the home-grown monitoring software was about 45 minutes, and I couldn't even test it, as these servers are bound for the DMZ and the DNS entries for them have already been made, so current and registered names and IPs don't match. Tomorrow I get to test what I did last week. Good thing for me that I take copious notes about my work as I go.
