happy new year

- Last year was my least verbose on lj. Part of that I blame on facebook, part of that I blame on stupidly addictive, time-sucking facebook games, and most of it I blame on simply running out of things to say and/or the need to say them. And partly too of constantly being the in position of writing retrospectively due to wanting to capture "events". Instead, I captured almost nothing.
- Last year was a huge amount of personal change. I gained and lost a best friend. I finally got over the longest-running crush of my life. I got closer with my kids, including Mike with whom I've had a hot and cold relationship in the last 7 years. I settled into my job quickly enough to find out my comfort level there wasn't comfortable enough, and realized that another stepping stone in my life is only going to help me get to where I need to go. And as an end-of-year surprise, my Ex-girlfriend reached out to me and we reconnected enough to be friends again.
- This year will be the 25th of my career. I'm still looking for an opportunity to reinvent myself as something other than a computer guy, but I'm way more patient and (dare I say) nearly zen about it, compared to years past.
- This year I may get laid off. After the new CEO had stated twice in a company-wide conference call that no one should be worried about their job, my employer did lay-offs at the beginning of December, and the suspicion is that they are going to continue with that through the remaining departments and groups this month.
- I'm watching one of my friends struggle with cancer. She's currently doing chemo, and all I can think is "there but for the Grace of God...". Physical limits are hitting me much more quickly than ever. I'm finally feeling my age. Some day I may even act it.
- My only resolution this year is to have someone to kiss next New Year's Eve. In the meantime, I'm living life, trying to uphold my responsibilities, and help my kids along.
