Being a Kid

My mom and dad sent my kids gift cards to Toys-r-Us for Christmas. This morning I took the three of them to go spend them. We spent over an hour in there, walking around letting them decide what they wanted. Danny was easy, a Nerf gun set (because only one Nerf gun isn't that much fun) and a small Hot Wheels set. Elyssia wanted babies. Lots of babies. She got three baby dolls, one for here and two to take home. I don't know how many she has now, but she never tires of them.
Watching Sam was that sweet-sad mix. Again. The first thing she got was a stuffed bear. Apparently "shiningstar" stuffed animals are the new hot item at her school. And of course there's a website tie-in and some other stuff, but she had to get one cause her friends all have one or three or more. But she didn't get just any one of them. I watch her look at all of them and decide which she wanted, and for a moment she had that same look in her eyes that her sister had in picking out baby dolls. Then she surprised me, and insisted on getting a basketball. She wants to take it to school to play with at recess and to have to play with her friends.
Eleven was hard for me. But then so were 12-18. I'm glad she seems to be having a better time of it.
