Tell us what you think
Feb. 9th, 2005 10:49 pmDear AOL:
While I can understand AOL not hosting newsgroups anymore (I do recognize that carries a certain cost), it's simply ridiculous that you went so far as to disable nntp access to other news host's servers. I sincerely doubt that you were getting that substantially greater amount of malicious traffic through the nntp port as any other. This has got to be the stupidest decision you have made since releasing that bug-laden monstrosity that was release 8.0.
Consequently, I shall be re-evaluating my AOL membership. I have had an AOL account since 1997. I have utilized AOL's newsgroup access more days than not every year since. I am now going to have to weigh not having that access against giving-up the e-mail address I've maintained for 7 and a half years. After all, if I have to pay for broadband internet access in order to get to Usenet, what would I really need AOL for at that point? Of course I doubt very much that you considered the points-of-view of members such as myself in this decision.
And your suggestion to use google was almost as lame as their "new and improved" dumbed-down, spam-ridden interface that might updated as many as four times a day.
Yeah, just freakin' lovely.
