making plans
Mar. 22nd, 2005 12:18 amTonight I bought tickets to fly to Cleveland next month. My brother is back from Iraq. He's home on a few days' leave now, has to go back to Ft. Bragg tomorrow for debriefing and then will be home for good sometime the week of April 4th. His wife is throwing him a welcome home party. My sister, her new baby, and husband are driving up from SC on that Thursday, and I'm flying in on that Friday. It will be the first time we've all been together since my grandfather died 8 years ago. Alot has changed since then, and as much of that changed has been unplanned as planned.
If this last year has taught me anything at all, it's been to be flexible about making plans. Yesterday I was planning on working from noon until about 4:30. Instead, I was there until just after 10pm. About this time last year I was seriously talking with my girlfriend about us moving in together. Today we aren't dating. Talk about your extremes.
Some weeks I'm more motivated than others to make plans. Some weeks I don't make any plans at all. Sometimes I wonder if there's much of a difference. I used to keep a journal of sorts when I was in highschool. It was mostly a glorified calnedar with scheduled plans and some commentary after the fact about how things went, or not. Mostly it was a way to mark time until graduation. Today I'm marking time until my boys' graduations. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
