weird week
Jun. 3rd, 2006 11:51 pmThis last week was too much stress and drama at work, too much being off-schedule, too many drugs, and not enough real sleep. Today I changed a lot of that. No work. Slept in way too late, but it felt so good. Only stress and drama was the Ex ran out of gas and I had to go bail her out. Fortunately she was almost back to the house and had it parked legally so not a huge deal.
I stayed at work Friday until almost 7. I was determined to wrap-up everything important from that week, as Monday I'm down in Mass for a vendor demo. The department director arranged for a limo this time; at first I thought it might be due to not wanting to have me drive again, as I'm the only one with a car tht comfortably seats 4 (he drives a BWM, my manager a Saab). But we have more than four going this time, so there should be a good sized limo waiting for us Monday morning.
I'm going to have to get up fairly early (for me) Monday. I'm still on the steroids and they are hard on my stomach if I don't eat. In a completely self-indulgent and over-compensating reaction to that, I've been getting chocolate milk, two donuts, and a coffee every morning since Wednesday at Dunkin Donuts. If they are renting a nice limo, I doubt my breakfast will be very welcome there, so I need to get up early enough to fit that in before-hand.
No one mentioned suit and tie or not, so I'll iron a shirt and wear 'em anyway. I can always take them off if I'm over-dressed. Or not. Sometimes it's fun to be the one setting the tone. It's not something I often get to do.
So Friday I stayed late to put my time in. Around 4 when my cow-orker left I was thinking I could just come in today or tomorrow and do that, but that was becoming too frequent an event. Plus I waited to see the e-mail reply from our software vendor about the new system we are setting up. These guys are very sloppy, play their cards very close, and some of them get wicked pissed if you ask too many questions. When the reply came, I was level-headed enough to limit my reply to my manager, the systems engineer coworker who's going to setup the boxes, and his manager, and then didn't just point out their flaws, but managed to offer some options for dealing with it. Tuesday will either be a very interesting day at work, or disappointingly anti-climatic.
Tomorrow is the antiquarian book show in Concord. I asked Mike if he wants to go, and he said sure--out of boredom, no doubt. But that's cool, this way I have someone to carry any potential purchases for me, as I'm still not supposed to be doing stuff like that.
