Today was the date for my Periodic Payment Hearing, to compel the guy I won judgment against to starting paying me, either completely or in a court-ordered periodic basis. Naturally, the idiot didn't show. No surprise there. A bench warrant was issued, the Sheriff's department will get it tomorrow and should serve before the end of next week. Then we get a rescheduled date and try again.

Last fall I bought a copy of Tori Amos' "Boston Boot" CD, an official sort-of bootleg from the concert she did in Boston that past August. I got it for my then-gf for Christmas, and made a copy of it for myself. After all, I'd paid for that concert three times, I reasoned, what's the big deal?

I'm retelling that story to tell this one: I finished reading Tori Amos' book, Piece by Piece. Towards the end of it, she tells a story of a musician who said to her, "I think music should be free." She, very patiently, pointed out to him that if that's the case, apparently he didn't want to get paid. Of course, that wasn't the case, and after a bit of back-and-forth, he conceded, "I guess I sound pretty hypocritical..."

I thought, yeah, he did. There's too many people out there like that. I should do something about that.

Like not be one.

So I went to http://www.toriamosbootlegs.com/ and paid for another copy. And not just out of guilt, but because, after reading her story, I felt like I had slighted a friend. Tori shared so much more of herself than I expected in her book. Sure, she's always been outspoken, but she shared more than just her experiences and memories, she gave of her insights and her motives and intentions and more. It's a good read, I heartily recommend it.

After court, I hit Borders. I picked up two CDs: "Emerson, Lake, and Palmer Isle of Wight 1970", which is a CD/DVD combo; and Tori Amos "Little Earthquakes". I think this leaves only "Boys for Pele" and "Strange Little Girls" as her only works that I don't have, besides the 5 other "Boots" from her "Beekeeper" tour. I also got a copy of Keyboard magazine, which I've not read in many, many years. It included a list of up-coming concerts by various keyboardists, and there on the list was Rick Wakeman. He's going to be in Melrose, Mass on the 16th. So I bought a ticket as an impromptu treat for myself. Now I just have to make sure that I'm on-call this Friday and not next and I'm all set. He's doing a Grand Piano tour, so this should be a somewhat personal experience, possibly something along the lines of "The Oscar Concert", which is terribly cute and should be a must-listen for anyone who appreciates keyboards and animals.

I'm horribly behind on reading lj, apologies if I've missed Important Stuff; feel free to IM or e-mail me a virtual smack-up-the-head to bring it to my attention.
