Ohio State vs. Michigan
Nov. 17th, 2006 09:47 pmIt's that time of year when lots of kids and many adults in Ann Arbor, Michigan and in Columbus, Ohio, go stark, raving, nuts. Tomorrow is the annual Ohio State vs. Michigan football game. This year's event will be held in the 'Shoe in Columbus. The hype this year is through the roof, with Ohio State ranked #1 and Michigan ranked #2 in the national polls.
The outsider viewpoint ala the BBC was interesting.
The story on ESPN tells it much better than I can.
This wouldn't be complete without noting the passing of former Michigan coach Bo Schembechler.
The short version for those not interested in chasing the links is best summerized by this story:
That '68 team not only beat Michigan 50-14, but after the Buckeyes'
final fourth-quarter touchdown, the players lined up and went for two, a
breach of protocol in every unwritten football manual. When asked why,
Hayes delivered a one-liner worthy of Bobby Bowden: "Because they
wouldn't let us go for three."
