thinking about the unthinkable
Jun. 24th, 2007 05:38 pmIt's 2007. The 21st century is well on it's way. I've been working with computers and other new technology for over 20 years. And yet I still do not have a cell phone.
It started out as a simple matter of cost vs. necessity, and there just wasn't any driving need for it. As my kids got older, there were times where a cell phone would have been convenient, but still I couldn't justify the cost. In the last 4-5 years as the market has gotten more competative and phones have gotten cheaper--to the point where I could get a free phone if I wanted to be that cheap about it--it just became a matter of principle.
Except now I have, I think, a legit need. I'm thinking about getting a prepaid cell phone to have with me on the trip next month. I just checked, and Virgin Mobile has coverage on all of I-90, with what looks like just a couple of dead spots between Buffalo and Erie, but no major gaps.
I need to check what Verizon's prepaid plans are, as I'm sure they have the best coverage in the areas I'm driving through. I know I can get the Virgin Mobile plan for $15 a month and a half-decent phone for $20. My Ex has a Virgin Mobile phone, which is what started me looking into it. I have to go back and see if calls between her and I would be free, cause that would just about clinch the deal I think.
So, any advice, ancedotes, warnings, or whatever anyone would like to share would be appreciated.
