partially employed
Oct. 15th, 2007 03:54 pmI had an interview this morning for a contract job doing e-mail and web administration. They guy was nice, the work looks straightforward enough, and he wanted me to start today.
After the interview I stopped in at the recruiter's office to let them know. This was at 10am. They, unfortunatly, were not at all prepaired for me to start today. They hadn't checked my references, and they had to have a former manager as a reference. Not that I couldn't get one, I did. My manager at the hospital was nice enough to give a reference for me. But I hate imposing like that. And then the recruiter didn't get back to me, so I called him about 30 minutes ago and he let me know I was all set. 5 hours lost. Yeah, nothing has been easy about this job transition, which is why I hate changing jobs.
So now I'm waiting for my new manager to let me know he's setup the access for me so I can start. Given that time, that probably won't happen until tomorrow, but at least I got it. They are using qmail and spam assassin and are having problems with very inappropriate spam mail getting through, so that's my first project. Spam assassin looks easy enough, but I've not seen it in action, so it's hard to say.
The really great part of this job is that I'll be working from home, and quite possibly will be able to hang on to it after I've gotten full-time employment, so that will be a huge help catching-up financially on things. In the mean-time I still have three companies to hear from on the full-time side, and at least one has committed to getting back to me this week.
