After seeing my resume, the hiring manager for the job I applied to Tuesday wants to bring me in for an interview. It turns out that the position is 75% Unix & Linux and 25% Windows administration. So I told the headhunter that I wasn't interested. I don't want to get sucked into something that's going to turn into a full-time Windows gig. Except that when she told the hiring manager that he asked her to find out if I'd still be interested if the Windows part of the job duties were dropped.

I am interested, but with reservation. The company is over an hour away down in Mass. I have about a 50 minute drive now and I'm still not used to it. I've no idea if the longer drive is that much longer that it's going to make a difference, or not. The salary is enough of an increase to cover the state income tax and the extra gas--but only at today's prices. Effectively it's break-even on the money. So it would come down to the manager and the company. If I took a job that far away I'd probably move. I'm sure it's past time for that.

There is also a job over in Keene, NH. I would definitely have to move for that, but Keene is a very nice, small, college town, so that wouldn't be bad. I think.

For the first time in my life, I'm looking for a job without an over-riding consideration for who in my family (immediate or exended) lives where. I suppose it's a bit like sailing without a rudder. Or just getting lost, I'm not sure which.
