I stayed home from work today. This weekend I either picked-up some sort of stomach bug, or ate something that severely disagreed with me. A day of sleeping, eating cereal, salad, pepto bismol pills, and lots of water seems to have taken care of the worst of it. Some more bland-ish food for the next couple of days, along with a lot of water, should set me right. Physically, at least.
Saturday was spent running errands: hair cut, oil change, a quick shopping trip, and a good hour spent at the coin shop catching-up with Frank, then up to the house to sign school papers, collect bills to be paid and spend some time with my kids.
Sunday I went down to Somerville to have brunch with
silentq. Afterward, because I was already 90% of the way there, I dropped in on
simply_juniper and hung with her and her new roomie and their unusal friend for a couple of hours. So being social on both a planned and semi-spontaneous basis was accomplished.
My DVD player isn't working. It stopped reading discs a few weeks ago. Last Sunday I took it apart and cleaned the laser, confirmed that it was spinnning the discs when loaded and put it back together. Today I finally hooked it back up and confirmed that all of that was for naught. (Just like I knew it would be which is why I took a week to bother going throught the effort of plugging it all in.) This is the second DVD player I've gone through in 4 years. Searching back through my lj, I find the first one I bought in March of 2004 and it died a year and a half later. This one faired better, as I bought it in November of '05. Still, I would have expected it to last longer than just shy of 3 years. My VCR player is an old JVC from the 1980s. I swear the manufacturers these days put in "time bombs" on the computer chips to kill the devices after "x" many hours of use.
I'm really not wanting to spend money on a new DVD player, even if I can find a decent one under $100. And of course Iron Man comes out on DVD tomorrow.
