I have the flu. Don't know if it's of the swine varietal or not, and really don't care to find out. I just wish it was gone. This is Brandon's last weekend home before he goes off to basic training next Monday. I'm thinking I'm not going to be able to see him before he goes. I absolutely cannot risk getting him sick. If he's too sick to travel, he'll have to wait another three months for the next rotation. If he goes and washes out in the first two weeks, they may not take him back.
Tomorrow his mom arranged to have a lunch going-away party for him, at the Spalding Inn. It's up north in Whitefield, where her mom lives in a retirement home that's an old school building converted into apartments. The Inn is owned by the two guys who were the original investigators on the SciFi TV show "Ghost Hunters". They did an episode of season 5 there. You can say that Brandon is something of a fan of the show. Most of his mom's side of the family and some of his friends are going to be there for the party. I don't know if the guys from Ghost Hunters are going to be there, or not, but she asked if they were around if they didn't mind stopping by.
I have to give her credit, this is one of the coolest things she's come up with ever. I wish I could go. Instead, I drove to the house to give her the my van to use, and she drove me back here after hitting the pharmacy and stocking up on cold & flu medicine. For some reason, I had an urge to get Hall lemon-honey cough drops.
