physics can be fun
Sep. 19th, 2009 01:02 amEarlier this week my son Daniel asked if I could take him to the science fair at school, which was tonight. Other than Christmas or his birthday, Danny practically never asks for anything. So, when he does speak-up, you know he means business, that he's put some thought into and and clearly come to a definitive conclusion on the matter which he has now deemed worthy of his mom's or dad's attention.
The fair was put on by this guy: http://slapstickscience.com/
It was funny and instructional all at the same time. Using pulleys, a lever and fulcrum and other simple machines, the guy demonstrated how easy it is to harness the power of nature in your favor. At one point he had two little girls use the long end of the lever to lift the 5 biggest adult men the guy could find and put on the short end. The kids were impressed as much as they were entertained.
My kids are coming over tomorrow. I have some science stuff around here, I need to dig it up so we can "play" with it.
