I had a productive day despite most of it being spent watching football. The fall installment of the semi-annual antiquarian book fair was today. I managed to limit my spending to a mere $21, purchasing two very nice books: "The Great Stone Face" by Hawthorne, which is a collection of short stories including the title story about the Old Man of the Mountain; and a book of poetry by Friedrich Schiller, in the orginal German, from 1865. It's printed in the Fraktur typeface, which makes for an interesting read just deciphering the letters, let alone the language.

I asked Sam if she wanted to go, but the fascination of old books seems to have worn off, as she was not at all interested, which was too bad. There seemed to be many more older volumes this year than in years past. And by older, I mean nice, leather bound books from the 1700s and earlier.

At one point I held in my hands a book on Joan of Arc from the late 1880's that was in near-perfect condition. The paper was not at all faded, but the binding was great, the boards were in nice condition and the leather spine didn't show so much as as a crack. It was only $50, which made me wonder how common it was, even in that condition There were a couple of other books that caught my eye, including "The History of Penacook, NH". But that was two-hundred-something, and in terrible condition.

Since coming back home I've done some cleaning and some more getting stuff put away. Yesterday I bought a mop and broom holder, and this afternoon mounted it on the wall and put it to use. The wall at the top of the stairs going down to the celler already had a piece of wood mounted on the plaster that made for a perfect spot for it.

I've spent the evening listing some books on half.com and some more auctions on ebay. I think I've got about three weeks left for doing ebay listings before I'm locked out for lack of a paypal account. I've got some more miscellaneous coins and and coin related stuff to sell. I'll probably group most of it into large lots and list them with cheap starting bids just to get them gone. I've also still got a couple dozen 78s to get rid of that I have to find again.

Once I'm done with ebay, I'll have to find something else to fill my evenings, now that I don't have court or class or kids during the week. Sam's field hockey runs 3 more weeks, I think. She's mentioned wanting to do basketball, but that will be right after school, so she won't need me to chauffeur.

I need to find something social. I don't have many friends, and while the Internet provides certain opportunities for friends that I otherwise wouldn't have, it would be nice to have a friend that was close by.
