I had considered going out tonight, but rather then spend the evening a room of mostly strangers, I stayed in. I suspect that for the few people I would know, that my presence, while probably welcome, wouldn't really make a difference. It's been snowing all day, with temps in the single digits.

It's cold in here too. The furnace is running nearly every 30 minute, and that's with the thermostat on 62, and a space heater running. I'm going to hit the used furniture stores in the area tomorrow to look for some throw rugs to put on my cellar floor. The floor is concrete, and ice cold. I cringe to think of how much heat my furnace is pumping out down there that's getting sucked out of the metal duct work into the floor. If I can find some rugs or carpet remnants of the right size, maybe I can limit some of that.

I found out tonight that bread is electrically conductive. I made some crescent rolls, the kind you buy at the grocery store in tube. Baking them warmed the kitchen for an hour or so. After I had finished dinner, I took one more roll off the baking sheet and got quite the electrical shock. I hadn't touched the stove or the aluminum baking sheet, just the bread. It's dry in here, with the cold and the heat going, and getting shocked on door handles and things isn't unusual. But getting zapped by the bread--that was a new one.

I've got the remainder of the week off work. The Exec's decided to do a shutdown from Christmas until next Monday. They gave us 4 company holidays, and then required everyone to take 4 vacation days. I got permission to work yesterday and Monday to do a software install, and salvaged two days of vacation. Going back to work on Monday is going to be hard. But I suspect finding a new job in 2009 is going to be even more difficult than it was in 2008.
