was a no-show today. Mike Huckabee and new pal Chuck Norris were scheduled to appear at a rally in downtown Concord today, at the Barley House. Mr Huckabee was there, and so was nearly every TV station in New England. By the time I got downtown, drove around, found parking, walked/ran back down Main Street, I was in time to see the Huckabee bus driving away.

It turns out that only those who showed and lined-up before the place even opened actually got in. The restaurant is licensed for something ridiculous like 400, and there was about that many people outside as I drove by. And another couple hundred Clinton, McCain, and Obama supporters accross the street on the State House lawn and all up and down Main Street.

After the bus left, however, getting in wasn't a problem, although the place was still very busy. I learned that Mr. Norris didn't show, so I didn't miss the event I thought I had and what I really only had come down for. But, as long as I was there, I figured why not eat. I tried the "Huckabee burger": a bison burger cooked to order, with baby spinach and tomato on an wheat english muffin. It was, appropriately enough for a sandwich named after a politician, a bit dry. It would have definitely benefited from the bar-b-queue sauce they normally serve the regular bison burger with, or at least some cheese. A thick slice of swiss, colby, or mild chedder would have helped both texture and taste. As it was, I had to make due with ketchup. Mustard would have been better, had I thought to ask for it.

Someone managed to capture the burger being consumed by its namesake.
