mixed weekend
Mar. 29th, 2010 12:27 amDrivers license renewal didn't happen last week, so that's item one on tomorrow's agenda. The work week took forever to finish, but eventually did. I have a new project, which happens to be part of the new company product so this is going to do a lot for my visibility within the company--whether I want it to or not. So, note to self: tread carefully.
Yesterday I was determined to get out. It was sunny, but cold, only about 30 out. I did not let that deter me, and I still walked downtown. I stopped at the non-chain store jewelery shop and had them expand the band on my watch. I have a Seiko Kinetic that I hardly ever wear, in part because the band is very tight. The girl who did the work was amazed that after nearly 15 years I still had the extra links for the band the came with the watch. Somewhere in the depths of my files I probably still have the instructions too, but digging that out to find out I didn't have the right tools or skill to add the link myself wasn't a trip I was interested in taking.
I want to start wearing my watch to motivate myself, in part, to start dressing better. My particular brand of OCD doesn't put up with wearing a gold watch while otherwise dressed slovenly. And if I want management at work to pay attention to my recommendations, I need to dress at least better than some of my less conscientious co-workers.
After getting my watch re-sized, it was down to the Barely House for a lunch. The soup o' the day was crab chowder. I could smell it as soon as I walked in. They put radishes in it. Raw radishes are crunchy, snappy good. Cooked radishes are fibrous, mushy and bland. I will never understand why some people feel the need to ruin a good chowder by polluting it with vegetables. (Potatoes don't count; they are more there to absorb the beer than act as veggies.) However, Kaitlyn was sympathetic to my point of view and managed to not to scoop any of the root-mush into my bowl, and it was good. Two hours, a very large salad, two Guinness and a crème brûlée and coffee later, I was back outside walking home. Funny how the walk back seemed warmer than the walk down, but I suppose a lot of food and alcohol will do that for a person.
Today I went over to the house to see my kids. I wanted them yesterday, but that wasn't going to happen, so I went over and talk to them for about 40 minutes today. It's not much, but other than Elyssia's doctors visits, I've not seen them much in the last two weeks. I have this Friday off, as the stock market will be closed for Good Friday, so tomorrow I'm going ot ask my Ex about having the kids over Friday night and Saturday. I mentioned to her today that I have the day off, so she knows it's coming.
